Located in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, Kuroba Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to the water god, Hikoboshi no Ōkami, and the fisherman's deity, Hachiman. The shrine is known for its unique architecture and beautiful gardens. According to legend, the shrine was founded by a local fisherman who discovered a sacred spring that cured his blindness.

Cultural notes
Kuroba Shrine is famous for its 'Tsukimi' (moon viewing) festival, which takes place on the 15th day of the 8th month of the lunar calendar. Visitors can enjoy traditional mochi and sake while admiring the full moon reflected in Lake Kawaguchi.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1642 after being destroyed by a tsunami.
