Hachimatsu is often invoked for protection against storms and strong winds. During the autumnal festival (Aki Matsuri), devotees perform rituals to ensure a bountiful harvest and ward off evil spirits.

Established in 718, during the Nara period, as a site to honor the legendary general Minamoto no Yoshitsune.
