Cultural notes
Ōtsutsuki is also associated with the legend of the fox spirit ( kitsune ) and is said to be one of the few Shinto shrines where you can see a fox in the main hall. The shrine's architectural style reflects its connection to the legendary god Ōtsutsuki, with its vermilion lacquerwork adding an air of elegance.
Historical note
The shrine was founded in the early Heian period (794-1185 CE) by Emperor Saga and his wife, Empress Nagako.
