Visitor tip
To respectfully pray for safe passage, tie a yellow string with your name written on it around the pillar at the entrance of the shrine's main hall.
Cultural notes
This shrine is closely tied to the local legend of the ' shipwrecked sailor' who found solace in the shrine's safety. During the annual summer festival, visitors can enjoy traditional food and drink, including sake made from rice grown at the shrine.
Historical note
The shrine was built in the late Heian period (12th century) as a way to honor the kami responsible for guiding lost ships back to port.
