Located in the city of Gotemba, Water Shrine (Mizugami-jinja) is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the water god Mizu-no-kami, an important deity in Shizuoka Prefecture's mythology. As one of Japan's oldest shrines, it dates back to the 8th century and is said to have been built during the Nara period. The shrine is famous for its beautiful architecture, including a large torii gate and a tranquil garden.

Visitor tip

Mizugami-jinja is known for its association with good luck and prosperity. According to local legend, if you tie a shoelace on your left side before visiting the shrine, you will be granted good fortune.

The Water Shrine was renovated in 1841, after being damaged by an earthquake.
