Located in the city of Koka, Shiga Prefecture, Ifukamado Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Hachiman Okami, the god of war and patron deity of warriors. It was originally built in 1585 during the Sengoku period as a local shrine for the Matsudaira clan, a powerful daimyo family. Over time, the shrine gained importance due to its connection with the famous warrior Minamoto no Yoritomo, who is said to have worshipped here before his death. Today, the shrine is known for its beautiful architecture and stunning views of Lake Biwa.

Cultural notes
Ifukamado Shrine is famous for its unique festival called the 'Kokoro Matsuri', which takes place every autumn. During this festival, participants wear traditional costumes and reenact the legendary battle of Anegawa between Minamoto no Yoritomo's forces and those of Taira no Kiyomori.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1889 after being destroyed during the Boshin War.
