Enma O-no-kami is also associated with the Japanese concept of 'reincarnation,' where the soul continues on after death, and is often invoked in rituals related to funerals and memorial services. The shrine's unique architecture reflects its connection to the natural world, with the main hall designed to resemble a traditional Japanese bridge.
Historical note
The shrine was founded during the late Edo period, when Niigata Prefecture was still under the control of the Tokugawa shogunate.
