Visitor tip
Visit the shrine's nearby forest to see the 'Musha-ya', a large wooden archway used as a memorial for warriors who have died protecting the shrine.
Cultural notes
White Beard Shrine is associated with the mythology of Tsukuyomi-no-kami, god of the moon. The shrine is also celebrated during the annual Moon Viewing Festival (Tsukimi), where visitors can view traditional sweets and desserts decorated with moon-shaped designs.
