Inari Okami Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Ibaraki, but there is another Inari that is actually located in Saitama, at the foot of Mount Kosuge, and is one of the most famous shrines dedicated to Inari Okami, the deity of rice, fertility, and prosperity. The shrine's architecture reflects traditional Japanese design, with a main hall (honden) covered by a roof made from the wood of the sacred camphor tree, which is said to have magical powers.

Visitor tip
For a more serene experience, visit early in the morning or late in the evening when the shrine is less crowded. Also, try not to take pictures inside the honden as it's considered impolite.
Cultural notes
This shrine is famous for its thousands of vermillion torii gates forming a tunnel that visitors must walk through before entering the inner sanctum. The gates are believed to ward off evil spirits and bring good luck. Inari Okami is also associated with poetry, particularly haiku, and many famous poets have visited the shrine to find inspiration.
Historical note
The current structure was built in 1627 during the Edo period.
