一成稲荷大明神

One成稲荷大明神 Shrine, located in the town of Nihari, Ibaraki Prefecture, is dedicated to the Shinto deity Amaterasu Okami's messenger and tutelary spirit of agriculture, rice, and prosperity. The shrine's name reflects its association with prosperity (一成) and the abundant harvests of the region. Built in 1892 during the Meiji period, the shrine features a distinctive rectangular shrine building with a tiled roof and sliding doors.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

This shrine is connected to the mythology of rice and agriculture in Japanese culture. During the New Year (Oshogatsu) festival, shrine staff perform a ritual to purify the grain stores, known as 'morinagashi', which is believed to bring good luck for the coming year.

Historical note

The shrine was rebuilt in 1892 after being destroyed by fire during the Boshin War.
