Visitor tip

Cultural notes

This shrine is connected to the legend of Kuchisake-onna, a vengeful spirit from Japanese folklore said to appear as an old woman with a disfigured face. Locals believe that the shrine can ward off evil spirits by burning incense and making offerings.

Built during the Edo period (1603-1868), this shrine has been serving as a local shrine for over two centuries.
