Visitor tip
Visit during the autumn season to witness the beautiful fall foliage, but be respectful and avoid taking pictures of the shrine's wooden structure which is an original Heian-era building.
Cultural notes
This shrine is connected to the legend of Kuchisake-onna, a vengeful spirit from Japanese folklore said to appear as an old woman with a disfigured face. Locals believe that the shrine can ward off evil spirits by burning incense and making offerings.
