Cultural notes

Daye Daikami Shrine is associated with the mythology of the sun goddess Amaterasu and is said to be a place where she is revered as 'O-Daikami', the Great Sun Goddess. The shrine's architecture reflects this connection, with its distinctive tower and ornate decorations. During the summer months, the shrine hosts the 'Odawara Matsuri' festival in honor of O-Daikami.

Historical note

Built in 1609 as a tribute to Tokugawa Iemitsu, not Tokugawa Ieyasu.
