Located in the city of Okazaki, Shizuoka Prefecture, East Shine Shrine is one of the oldest Shinto shrines in Japan, dating back to the Edo period. The shrine is dedicated to the god of agriculture and fertility, Hachiman, as well as the god of learning, Shinto literature and poetry Sugawara no Michizane's enshrined deities also include Enma Daijin and Konohanama-no-Kami. The shrine's architecture reflects a mix of old and new styles, with a wooden main hall and a modern museum wing.

Cultural notes
East Shine Shrine is known for its traditional festivals held twice a year, in spring and autumn. During these festivals, participants carry lanterns made from paper and candles in honor of Hachiman's deity to promote good harvests and prosperity.
