Yamanashi

Established in 1663, notódō is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Minamiyoshida, Yamanashi Prefecture. Dedicated to the god Inari Okami, it is one of Japan's oldest and most revered Inari shrines. The shrine complex features traditional architecture with five main halls, including the Main Hall (Honden), the Treasury (Konda), and the Lantern Room (Tōrō).

Visitor tip

Inari is revered for his association with rice and prosperity. The shrine is famous for its beautiful gardens, especially the maple leaf trees that are in full bloom during autumn. The shrine's main hall has a distinctive curved roof and features a large wooden torii gate. Visitors often participate in prayer rituals, such as exchanging coins and praying at the shrines' five sacred torii gates.

Historical note

It was originally built in 1575 but was rebuilt after a fire in 1663.
