Located in the town of Iwata, Shizuoka Prefecture, Katsurahama Shrine is dedicated to the sea and the kami of the coastal region. The shrine's primary deity is Shisa-en no Kami (god of good luck), however it also enshrines a number of other regional kami including Okuninushi-no-kami (god of agriculture) and Inari-sama.

Visitor tip
To maximize your visit, arrive early or late to avoid crowds. Be sure to purchase a sake ticket (, sake kippu), which grants you entry into the shrine's main hall and allows you to receive a free cup of sake at the tea house.
Cultural notes
Katsurahama Shrine is closely tied to the region's maritime culture and hosts an annual festival in October to celebrate the bounty of the sea. Visitors can also explore the adjacent shrine gardens, which feature a large torii gate and beautifully manicured bonsai trees.
Historical note
Founded in 1602 during the Edo period, Katsurahama Shrine was originally built to protect the town from pirate raids.
