Ryugyu-jinja is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Osato, Miyagi Prefecture, dedicated to Ryugu, the dragon god who is said to have created the sea and land of Japan. The shrine is famous for its beautiful architecture and stunning views of Matsushima Bay.

Visitor tip

Ryugyu-jinja is closely tied to the mythology of Matsushima Bay, which was said to be created by Ryugu's tears. The shrine also features a unique 'tree- shrine' style architecture, with multiple shrines built into the branches of a single tree.
