Cultural notes
As a shrine dedicated to a god of longevity, the shrine's main hall is adorned with a beautifully crafted wooden pillar called 'Hikokuro no Makura'. This pillar is said to have healing properties and is believed to bring good health and longevity to those who pray here. The shrine also holds an annual 'O-Hashi' festival in May to celebrate the arrival of spring.
Historical note
The shrine was built during the Edo period (1603-1868) to honor a local samurai, Tanaka Hikokuro, who lived in the area.
