Inugami Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in Omi-Hachiman, Shiga Prefecture. Dedicated to Inugami no Okami, the Shiva-like god of fertility and agriculture, it has been a significant cultural and historical site for centuries. The shrine is famous for its beautiful garden, the 'Mori-no-miya', which features over 2,500 cherry blossom trees.

Visitor tip

For a more serene experience, visit during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) and walk through the Mori-no-miya garden along the winding path that reflects off the pond's calm surface.

Cultural notes

The shrine is closely associated with Inugami no Okami, who was said to have been the god of fertility and agriculture for the region. According to legend, the god appeared as a fox spirit to a local farmer and blessed his crops. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in May, where visitors can experience traditional dances, food stalls, and games.
