Located in the city of Hamamatsu, Shingu Jinja is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari Okami, patron deity of rice and fertility. Visitor tip
For a more authentic experience, visit during cherry blossom season (March-April) and participate in the traditional 'sai' festival, where participants tie ribbons to the shrine's gates with wishes.
Cultural notes
Shingu Jinja is closely tied to local mythology, particularly the legend of the 'Hachi no Mihashi', or 'Eight Bend in the River', which tells of a kami who appears as an old man to help a weary traveler. The shrine also hosts various festivals throughout the year, including the 'Sai' festival and the 'Tango no Saiseki' (Shuttle Festival), which takes place on New Year's Eve.
