Saitama

Toshio Shrine is a Shinto shrine located in the town of Tokorozawa, Saitama Prefecture, and is dedicated to the deity, Tokitsutsuji no Kamado. The shrine was originally established in 1868 by the Tokugawa family as a shrine for their ancestral grave. It has undergone several renovations over the years while still maintaining its traditional architecture.

Cultural notes

Toshio Shrine is famous for its association with the god Tokitsutsuji no Kamado, known as the 'Shriner of the Rice', who is revered by farmers and fishermen. In the spring, visitors can participate in a traditional purification ceremony called 'Matsuri'.

Historical note

The shrine was re-established in 1868 after being destroyed during the Boshin War.
