Cultural notes
In the spring, Tenpaku-ji Shrine hosts the famous ' Cherry Blossom Festival' (Hanami), where visitors can participate in traditional tea ceremonies and admire the breathtaking beauty of the cherry blossoms. The shrine is also believed to be a sacred site for the worship of Ōkuninushi, who is said to bring good fortune and prosperity.
Historical note
The shrine was originally built during the Nara period (710-794 CE) and relocated to its current location in Kyoto during the Edo period (1603-1868 CE).
