Arashiyama Shrine, located in Shizuoka Prefecture, is dedicated to the god of rice and fertility, Ryujin, as well as the god of the sea, Fujin. The shrine's architecture reflects its origins in the Heian period (794-1185 CE), with a main hall built during the Edo period (1603-1867 CE). Visitors can explore the surrounding forested areas, which are said to be inhabited by Ryujin's spirit.

Cultural notes
Arashiyama Shrine is famous for its 'Gaki-zakari,' a ritual performed at night to appease the spirits of those who died from starvation. During the autumn season, visitors can also participate in the 'Autumn Leaves Festival' and enjoy the vibrant foliage.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt after being destroyed during the Sengoku period.
