Tazewa Shrine, located in the town of Ofunato in Iwate Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of the sea and fertility, Tazewa Okami. The shrine's architecture is influenced by traditional Japanese designs, with a large wooden gate and a vermilion torii gate. According to local legend, the shrine was built on the site where a priest once cured his wife of a fever using seawater from the nearby ocean.

Visitor tip

To make a wish at Tazewa Shrine, it is traditional to dip your hands into the water and pray before tossing them upwards towards the torii gate.
