G Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Tsukiyomi-no-kami, the god of the moon and the sea. Located in the city of Kakegawa, Shizuoka Prefecture, it is one of Japan's oldest shrines, dating back to the 8th century. The shrine is famous for its large stone lanterns, known as 'tsukubai,' which are believed to have purifying properties.

Visitor tip

The Shrine was rebuilt in 1889 after a fire destroyed the original structure during the Edo period.
