Tokyo

Located in the heart of Tokyo, Tsukiji Hongan-ji Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god of the sea and fishing, Ryujin. Dedicated to the fisherman who had been caught by a giant wave at the shrine's founding site in 1593, the shrine is also associated with Inari Okami, patron deity of rice and fertility. The shrine's architecture reflects this dual connection with its unique octagonal torii gate.

This shrine is particularly notable for its connection with Inari Okami, which is reflected in the numerous vermilion torii gates along the path leading up to the main shrine. The shrine also hosts an annual autumn festival honoring Ryujin and Inari Okami.
