Cultural notes
As a Shinto shrine dedicated to Hachiman Okami, it is deeply connected to the mythology of Japan's warrior class. The shrine is also famous for its unique structure, which features a distinctive curved roof and a large torii gate. During the Obon festival in August, visitors can participate in traditional dances and plays that honor the spirits of the war dead.
Historical note
The shrine was originally founded during the Nara period (710-794 CE), but its current structure dates back to the Heian period (794-1185 CE).
