Visitor tip
When visiting the shrine, try to arrive early to witness the beautiful sunrise ceremony, known as 'hatsumode,' which takes place at dawn on New Year's Day.
Cultural notes
The shrine is famous for its association with the legend of Susanoo-no-Mikoto, who is said to have created a barrier in Kinu Bay using his divine powers. According to myth, this barrier is still visible today as the 'Ninagasan' rock formation, located just offshore.
