The Mibuchi Shrine, also known as Moryo Jinen, is a Shinto shrine located in the city of Tottori, on the island of Honshu. Dedicated to the kami of the sea and the earth, it is one of the most sacred sites for fishing communities and farmers in the region.

Visitor tip

Visitors can participate in a traditional offering ceremony by throwing coins into the sea below the shrine's torii gate, believed to bring good luck and prosperity for fishermen and farmers.

Cultural notes

Mibuchi Shrine is connected to the mythology of the Japanese sea god Ryujin and the earth goddess Inazumanai-hime. The shrine also hosts an annual autumn festival to honor the harvest season.

The shrine was built during the Edo period (1603-1867) to ensure the fertility of the land and the bounty of the sea.
