Located in the city of Tottori, Shimonoseki Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the god Shimenawa-no-Okami and the god of fertility, Inari Okami. The shrine's main hall was rebuilt after the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, but it still retains its traditional architecture and Shinto atmosphere.

Visitor tip
To make the most of your visit, try visiting during cherry blossom season (late March to early April) when the surrounding park is beautifully decorated with blooming sakura trees.
Cultural notes
The shrine's architecture is a mix of traditional and modern elements, with a large torii gate and a wooden main hall. The shrine is also known for its beautiful gardens and traditional Shinto festivals such as the 'Umesaki Matsuri' which celebrates the arrival of autumn leaves.

The current shrine was built in 1916, following the previous shrine that dated back to the Edo period (1603-1868).
