Located in Osaka, Five-storied Pagoda Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of the Five Storied Pagodas, which are said to have been built by the legendary Japanese hero Yamato no Orochi and later renovated by Emperor Kanmu. The shrine's architecture reflects its historical significance as a major stop on the famous Nakagawa River pilgrimage route.

Visitor tip

Try to visit during the Cherry Blossom Festival (March-April) for stunning views of the surrounding cherry blossom trees and enjoy traditional Osaka-style street food at the festival stalls.

Cultural notes

The shrine is famous for its beautiful five-storied pagoda, which houses a number of kami including Yakushi Nyoi, the goddess of medicine, and Benzaiten, the goddess of music, art, and fertility. The shrine also hosts a number of festivals throughout the year, including the Nakagawa River Festival in October.
