Visitor tip

For a more immersive experience, visit Matsuyama-gu Shrine during cherry blossom season (late March to early April), as the surrounding park is particularly beautiful with its blooming sakura trees.

Cultural notes

As one of Japan's oldest shrines, Matsuyama-gu Shrine has strong ties to the mythology of the storm god Raijin and lightning god Fujin. The shrine also hosts an annual festival in honor of these powerful deities, featuring traditional performances and offerings.
