Original Market Shrine, located in the historic town of Kamakura, is dedicated to the Shinto god of commerce and prosperity, Fujin and Raijin's brother, Ryujin. The shrine was originally built during the Heian period (794-1185) as a sacred site for the city's marketplaces. Today, visitors can still see remnants of its original wooden structure.

As one of the few shrines dedicated to Ryujin in Japan, Original Market Shrine is a unique example of Shintoism's connection to Japanese mythology. The shrine also holds a festival called 'Kamakura Market Festival' every October to celebrate its patron deity.
Historical note
The shrine was rebuilt in 1637 after being destroyed by a fire.
