Dayotsu Shrine, located in the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park in Shizuoka Prefecture, is a Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of thunder and lightning, Inari Ō no Kami, as well as the god of the sea, Fujin. The shrine's current structure dates back to 1879, but it is believed that the original shrine was built in 1610. Dayotsu Shrine is known for its stunning views of Mt. Fuji and offers a serene atmosphere for visitors to pray and connect with nature.

Visitor tip
Visit the shrine during cherry blossom season (March-April) for a stunning display of blooming sakura trees surrounding the shrine grounds.
Cultural notes
In addition to Inari and Fujin, Dayotsu Shrine also enshrines the kami of Mt. Fuji, Sakamoto-ga-take no Kami, and the god of the sea's consort, Ryujin. The shrine is famous for its traditional Japanese architecture and offers a unique experience for visitors to pray at the foot of Mt. Fuji.
Historical note
The shrine was relocated from its original location in 1962 due to rising sea levels caused by volcanic activity.
