Located in the city of Hikone, Shiga Prefecture, White Dragon Shrine is dedicated to the water deity Ryūgūjin and the dragon god Ryūō no Kami. The shrine's name is inspired by the Ryūgūjin mythological figure, said to be a giant serpent-like dragon with human features. According to legend, the shrine was built to commemorate a samurai who defeated an invading army using his magical sword forged from the dragon's scales.

The shrine was rebuilt in the 19th century after being damaged by lightning strikes.
