Located in the heart of Osaka, Taima Jingu Shrine is dedicated to the Shinto god Inari Okami and is one of Japan's most famous shrines, famous for its beautiful vermilion torii gate that stands over 16 meters tall. The shrine complex spans more than 12 hectares, with several smaller shrines and gardens throughout.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes
As an Inari Shrine, Taima Jingu is famous for its fox spirits (Kitsune), which are believed to serve as messengers and servants of Inari. The shrine is also known for its traditional crafts, including the art of papermaking and the production of traditional Japanese sweets.
Historical note
Founded in 741 AD by Prince Shōmu, a prince of the Imperial Family who was said to have been influenced by Buddhism and Shintoism.
