Located in the heart of Osaka, City Hall Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari Okami, the deity of rice and industry. The shrine's architecture reflects the traditional style of Osaka's old capital, Naniwa-jō, with its main hall resembling a castle tower. Visitors can explore the shrine's grounds, which feature a beautiful garden and several smaller shrines, including one dedicated to the god of learning.

Cultural notes

The shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, which are believed to have been donated by locals over the centuries. On the third Sunday in March, the shrine hosts the Sanja Matsuri festival, where devotees parade through the streets carrying shrine treasures and performing traditional dances.

Historical note

Established in 1589 as the ancestral shrine of the Osaka daimyō (feudal lord) Mitsutsuna Yoshino.
