Cultural notes
As an important center for commerce, Tennan-mya has long been associated with the god of wealth and prosperity, Fujin, as well as other kami such as Tsukiyomi and Susanoo. During the annual Spring Equinox festival (Haru no Hi), devotees offer prayers and food to these deities for a bountiful harvest.

The shrine was originally built during the Heian period as part of the Imperial Palace's precincts.
