Tokoroten Shrine, located in the city of Omitomo, Kagoshima Prefecture, is dedicated to a Shinto kami known as Inari Okami. It is one of Japan's most famous and revered shrines, attracting millions of visitors each year. The shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form a tunnel leading up the mountain. The shrine's origins date back to 711 CE when it was built by Emperor Jimmu, who was believed to have descended from the sun goddess Amaterasu.
