Located in Hiki District, Hikarigusa Shrine is dedicated to the rice goddess and god of the rice harvest, O-inari okami. The shrine complex features a five-story pagoda with a large wooden gate and beautiful gardens. The shrine's architecture reflects its origins as a humble rice granary, and its traditional design has been preserved through the centuries.

Visitor tip
To make an offering to the shrine's kami, visitors should bring a small bag of rice grains and tie them to the vermilion torii gate.
Cultural notes
Hikarigusa Shrine is famous for its beautiful cherry blossom viewing at the beginning of spring. The shrine also hosts a New Year's festival called 'Shinshuku' in February, where locals visit to pray for good luck and prosperity.
Historical note
The shrine was founded in 1606 to commemorate the victory of Tokugawa Ieyasu at the Battle of Sekigahara.
