Located in the city of Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture, the Ryuryu no Jishinsha Shrine is a Shinto temple dedicated to Ryuryu, the Dragon God of Good Fortune and Prosperity. Visitor tip
To avoid crowds, visit the shrine early in the morning or later in the evening, when the sun is not too high. Bring a small gift of mochi or sake to offer to Ryuryu.
Cultural notes
Ryuryu is often depicted as a dragon wearing a crest with two crossed spears, symbolizing his role as a guardian deity. During the New Year (Oshogatsu) festival, visitors pray for good fortune and prosperity by tossing coins into the shrine's donation box at Ryuryu no Jishinsha.
