Inari Shrine, located in Shiga Prefecture, is one of the most famous and iconic Shinto shrines dedicated to Inari Okami, the god of rice, fertility, and prosperity. Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Inari Shrine is famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates that form a tunnel up the mountain, symbolizing the connection between heaven and earth. The shrine also holds an annual autumn festival to honor Inari Okami, featuring traditional dances and offerings.

Founded during the Heian period (794-1185), the current main hall was rebuilt in 1718.
