Cultural notes

Hachiman is often depicted with a bow and arrow, symbolizing his role as a protector of warriors. The shrine's unique architecture may have been influenced by the local Iwate region's unique culture, where the black roofs are thought to resemble the dark skies of the region.

Historical note

The shrine was founded during the Edo period (1603-1867).
