Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Naka-Meiren Shrine is connected to the legend of a golden mound discovered in the area, which was said to have been built by Hachiman Okami. The shrine also hosts an annual festival dedicated to Inari Okami, known as the 'Inari Matsuri', where devotees offer food and drink to the deity.

Historical note

Naka-Meiren Shrine was originally established in 1594 as a Shinto shrine dedicated to Inari Okami, and was later expanded to include Hachiman Okami in 1868.
