繁昌宮

Shiga

Located in the city of Echizen, Shiga Prefecture, Manzan Shrine is dedicated to the god of prosperity and good fortune. It is one of Japan's oldest shrines, with a history dating back to the 8th century. The shrine is known for its well-preserved Heian-style architecture and beautiful gardens.

Visitor tip

Cultural notes

Manzan Shrine is associated with the god Osumi Tanezaki, who is said to have brought prosperity to the region. The shrine also holds a Shinto New Year (Oshogatsu) ceremony on January 1st.

The shrine was originally built in 757 AD during the Nara period.
