Located in the heart of Ibaraki Prefecture, Sukagahashi Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of the area's rice fields and agriculture. The shrine's name, Sukagahashi, literally means 'rice paddy bridge.' Founded during the Heian period (794-1185 CE), the shrine has played an important role in the region's agricultural production and community life. Visitor tip

Cultural notes
Sukagahashi Shrine is associated with the Shinto god Inari Okami, patron deity of rice and fertility. The shrine is also famous for its traditional Japanese architecture, including a distinctive tiled roof and intricately carved wooden doors. Locals still make offerings to the shrine's kami during harvest season, seeking blessings for their crops.
