Located in the city of Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, Shinmei Shrine is dedicated to the kami of the region. Its current structure dates back to the 17th century, but it is believed to have been rebuilt on an earlier site from the 7th century. Cultural notes
Shinmei Shrine is said to be dedicated to the tsukuyomi-no-kami (moon deity), but it also enshrines several other kami including Inari and Susanoo. The shrine hosts a traditional spring festival called 'Kodai Matsuri' in April, which features traditional dances, food stalls, and games.
