Located in the city of Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, Eight Saints Temple is one of Japan's most famous Shinto shrines. Cultural notes
Eight Saints Temple is closely associated with the mythology of Susanoo-no-Mikoto and the origins of the typhoon. During typhoon season, locals offer prayers and make sacrifices to the god in hopes of protection from the storm. The temple's distinctive architectural style features a large wooden torii gate.
