日吉神社

Fukui

Dayo-jinja, a Shinto shrine located in Fukui Prefecture, is dedicated to the kami of good fortune and prosperity. The shrine is believed to have been founded during the Heian period (794-1185 CE) as a humble torii gate at a sacred site on the shore of Lake Katsura. Over time, it evolved into a major Shinto shrine with an impressive structure featuring a three-story pagoda, a five-story pagoda, and several shrines dedicated to other kami.

Historical note

The shrine was renovated in 1638 during the Edo period (1603-1867 CE) by Tokugawa Iemitsu.
