East Japan Shrine, also known as Mount Kingo Shrine, is one of the oldest shrines in Japan located in a scenic area near Lake Biwa. Dedicated to Amaterasu and Susanoo, it is considered one of the Three Great Shinto Shrines along with Ise Jingu and Mikasa-jinja. Founded during the early Heian period (794-1185 CE), this shrine was originally associated with the Imperial Regalia and held significant importance for Japanese imperial worship.
