Located in the city of Kakamigahara, Tannō Shrine is a Shinto shrine dedicated to Raijin, the god of thunder and lightning. The shrine is famous for its beautiful gardens and traditional architecture. Tannō Shrine was built in 1584 by the Tokugawa clan during the Edo period and has undergone several renovations over the centuries.

Visitor tip
To appreciate the shrine's beautiful gardens, visit during cherry blossom season (March-April) and try to catch the sunset on a clear day.
Cultural notes
The shrine is said to be the dwelling place of Raijin, who is believed to protect travelers. In 1964, Tannō Shrine was registered as a National Historic Site by the Japanese government.
